The Edmund Rice Centre for Justice and Community Education continues to promote ways to encourage young people to become advocates and to work for justice. There are many ways we can express our commitment as well as learn the core messages. ‘Australia is a nation that is inherently passionate about sport’ (The Starting Line by No2ndPlace, 2023) and our young people are connected more than most. 82% of Australians believe that sport can make important societal change (The Starting Line).
As a result, we are inviting you and your students to an event hosted by the Edmund Rice Centre – Fair Play: Exploring the Interaction Between Sport, Social Justice and Human Rights – on Thursday 16 November 2023. Please see the attached flyer for more details including our exciting keynote speaker and other presenters TBC.`
During the day there will be opportunities for students to interact with one another, and to develop practical ideas based on what they have learned on how to engage other members of their school communities.
This is a complementary program to the ‘Justice Through the Arts Program’ and focuses on the role of sport in making positive change for the world, which is more evident than ever.
More details and a Booking Form will be sent by the end of August. This will include the names of our other presenters from across all areas of sport, both male and female.
On the day you will have the opportunity to engage with our guests, as well as meet the new Director of the Edmund Rice Centre, 'Alopi Latukefu.
You and your students will not be disappointed, so please support us and grow our young people’s sense of social justice through a medium that is appealing.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for taking up this type of opportunity for the first time.
Kind regards
Marisa Brattoni, Carmel Clark, and Gillian Daley
