Pacific Communities during COVID-19

People of the Pacific must not be forgotten

While in Australia we have moved much of our communication online during COVID, in the Pacific where infrastructure, including access to the internet, let alone Wi-Fi, is often unreliable - the challenges have been far greater.

“We are confronted by issues that are beyond our capacity to handle and the COVID-19 pandemic is causing immense fear and panic in our community. Our best chance of coping with a possible outbreak is the support of our neighbours via the urgent provision of resources, such as testing kits, hand sanitiser and personal protective equipment for our health care workers.”

Maina Talia from Tuvalu.

Through the Pacific Calling Partnership, the Edmund Rice Centre has been calling for greater support for the Pacific throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, ERC will continue the Pacific Calling Partnership (PCP), working with the peoples of Kiribati and Tuvalu who are at the front-line of climate change, and training their emerging leaders.

With your support, we can continue to support Pacific communities at risk of falling through the gaps.
