It is with great sadness that the Pacific Calling Partnership (PCP) mourns the passing of our very first patron, Mrs Mabo.
Mrs Mabo began her involvement with the Pacific Calling Partnership in 2007 and then on the 25th October, 2008 she was an honoured guest at a forum PCP organised in conjunction with the Australian Catholic University entitled ‘Pacific Calling for Climate Justice: a human rights framework?’
It was a proud moment for PCP when Mrs Mabo opened the forum. Many of the presenters were Indigenous from both the Pacific Islands and the Torres Strait. Mrs Mabo gave the Indigenous speakers every encouragement and shared a little of her own story. The more than 100 people who attended the forum were struck by her grace and generosity.
We are very proud that she continued to be our patron until her death.
Vale Mrs Mabo, a true matriarch of reconciliation.
Because of her, we can.
