A message to Bill Shorten

Next week, Malcolm Turnbull and his Government are introducing legislation to ban people who have sought asylum in Australia by boat the opportunity to ever come to Australia, even as tourists.

Bill Shorten and Labor will decide whether this unfair and extreme proposal becomes law. They haven't decided which way they will vote and that's where you come in.

We are writing to Bill Shorten asking him to vote against this proposal. Will you add your name to the letter below?

Dear Mr Shorten

Firstly, we would like to thank you for your comments to date on the Turnbull Government's proposal to ban people who have sought asylum in Australia by boat the opportunity to ever come to Australia, even as tourists or business people.

However, actions speak louder than words and the votes of Labor Senators will determine whether this proposal becomes law.

This proposal does nothing to develop durable solutions to the international refugee challenge. It does nothing to advance the cause of a genuine regional cooperation framework. It does nothing to help displaced people in our region who are in need of protection.

That's why we are urging the Labor Party to vote against this proposal.

Will you sign?
