ERC's Pacific Calling Partnership was thrilled to join the University of Sydney's Sydney Environment Institute to host a public talk  from former president of Kiribati, Anote Tong, one of the world’s most prominent advocates for global action on climate change. Mr Tong highlights the role of wealthy industrialised nations such as Australia in climate action and the need for global recognition of the threat that climate change represents for vulnerable Pacific Island nations, with responses from Professor Rosemary Lyster and Dr Jennifer Newell.

In October 2018, the Edmund Rice Centre’s Pacific Calling Partnership is bringing one of the world’s foremost voices for climate justice to Australia. Anote Tong, climate warrior and former President of Kiribati will be meeting with politicians, talking to the media, conducting workshops and giving public talks in Melbourne and Sydney.

The IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C is a sobering reminder that Pacific Island nations could be wiped out by climate change, and that Australia and other polluter nations are standing idly by as the tragedy unfolds, said the Pacific Calling Partnership.
