Myth: "The Great Barrier Reef is fine. The threat is being exaggerated."

Many of us have visited the Great Barrier Reef on holidays. We can all agree it is an incredible place and needs to be protected, no matter what the threat. There have been countless studies showing the link between human induced climate change, warmer waters and coral bleaching.

93 per cent of the Great Barrier Reef is affected by coral bleaching and the worst bleaching event on record occurred earlier this year. The reef has lost over half its coral cover since the 1970s and 1980s.

The reef may be dying – but it is not dead. It can be saved so it’s really important we do everything we can to stop the damage being done.
