We are living at a critical time in our history. Democratic processes are being challenged. Economic rationalist policies are being questioned. The rights and responsibilities of individuals and communities are being diminished by dehumanising procedures, particularly in the area of communication. The negative effects of economic globalisation go unchecked. In this context we approach an election in New South Wales.

A JUST VOTE NOT JUST A VOTE is a kit containing a number of briefing papers and information about their use. The kit is the work of NetAct, a body of representatives from welfare agencies, religious orders, educational institutions, as well as other groups and individuals concerned with social justice. The kit is intended to remind voters of some issues which are of vital importance to New South Wales citizens.

The Kit

  • Outlines Catholic teaching on social justice.
  • Offers guidelines for interviewing members of parliament and candidates for election.
  • Includes a full address list for members of NSW Parliament.
  • Highlights some key principles relevant to a just society.
  • Deals with some current social issues.
  • Suggests alternatives for policy- makers to consider.

How to use this Kit

1. Select the issues that concern you and consider the content offered.

2. Make an appointment to visit the sitting member or candidates in your electorate. (See Guidelines.)

3. Leave a copy of the kit or specific papers with your member or candidates.

4. Use the papers as a basis for talk-back radio or letter writing.

5. As the kit is not copyrighted, copy material as you wish and distribute it to others.

The costs for producing the Kits are minimal because NetAct members assist through donating the use of their time and resources. However, NetAct would be grateful for a donation of around $5.50 to cover minor expenses and postage. Cheques or money orders should be made out to NetAct and sent to: NetAct, 90 Underwood Road, Homebush 2140.
