Bringing together an immersion depends on the right confluence of committed participants with similar interests, time availability and adequate finance.
ERC's procedure is to present a list of possibilities and priorities for immersions in the coming 18 months.
We invite initial expressions of interest - non-obligating - from people who may be interested in participating in one or more of these international immersions in 2010 - 2011
We encourage interested people to express their interest as early as possible. Conducting the immersion will only be possible if there are sufficient people interested. Minimum number is usually four participants and one ERC facilitator. Maximum numbers are 15 participants.
Costs are likely to be higher if there are less than six participants - so encourage your friends and contacts to also complete our expressions of interest form.

Living the option for the poor: the Church in the struggle for human rights
El Salvador & Guatemala: 1st to 20th January 2011
The Edmund Rice Centre is conducting this immersion program in January 2011 in partnership with the Catholic Education Office of the Archdiocese of Sydney. This formation program for is being offered for those who seeking to explore further a faith-inspired commitment to social justice.
Few places provide such a clear example as El Salvador & Guatemala of the role of the Church in living the option for the poor and of promoting social justice.
Our visit to the region and our meetings with people who worked alongside El Salvador and Guatemala‟s martyred bishops - Oscar Romero and Juan Gerardi - will shed light on this legacy and the commitment of so many thousands of Christians in these countries. These are people who continue to be willing to put their lives on the line for the construction of a society that reflects the values of the Kingdom that Jesus describes in the Gospels.

ERC's success in mounting a coherent argument for the reopening of the cases of those asylum seekers that Australia has deported to danger, has been based on rigorous research in situ in the countries to which these people were returned.
Such work has high levels of risk for our researchers and for the deportees. We are committed to accompanying these vulnerable people to achieve safety. In many cases their treatment by Australia has placed them at greater risk than when they were first forced to flea their place of origin.
The results of this research conducted by ERC Director Phil Glendenning and colleagues has been published in two reports: Deported to Danger. Information about the research and copies of the reports are available here.
The unique nature of this human rights research work means that it does not qualify for most sources of funding from agencies. The work can therefore only be continued through your support. To donate please go to our donations page.
Donations for this ERC work are tax deductible!
