Please help to make this giant petition a huge success
The community climate petition is an initiative launched by Micah Australia, involving collaboration with a range of organisations including Caritas, Uniting World, Franciscan Friars, CLRINSW, TEAR Fund, Common Grace, Catholic Earthcare, Australian Religious Response to Climate Change and Pacific Calling Partnership.
We are all working together on the one project.
Our shared aim is to generate a series of powerful, community-organised petitions across 150 electorates in order to influence the Government and Parliament for:
• stronger action to reduce Australia’s emissions,
• a faster transition to zero-net emissions,
• more substantial support to communities affected by climate change.
We need petition organisers to help us collect signatures between April 22 and July 31. If you are interested in helping, please complete the form on this page, email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact (02) 8762 4200.
PCP is looking for people with organisational skills, who have community links (such as parish and/or school and/or church or community connections) and who like reaching out to people to get them involved. Training and support will be available.
With the federal government conducting a climate policy review later this year, we’re inviting our supporters to work with other people in their own electorate to gather signatures, on paper, for a giant petition. We want to make support for strong action something which is impossible to ignore and we want to strengthen the engagement of people in these issues. Local MP’s will be challenged one by one by the fact that faith communities are getting organised around this issue in their electorate. The petition can serve as conversation-starters too, so there are a lot of spin-offs.We envisage supporters would have the option of joining like-minded local people of faith to form a team, and of participating in a formally presentation of the signatures to their elected MP in the House of Representatives.
Would you like to help organise collection of signatures? Please complete the form on this page, email Jill or phone the Edmund Rice Centre to volunteer your organising and collecting skills at email@example.com or (02) 8762 4200
